"It's a country with a rich cultural heritage and an extraordinary history. And it's a country, whose people are so dedicated and disciplined, they have become A-list guest and leaders on all the prestigious stages of the world market. And still- South Korea remains a widely unknown country.
A lot of people in Europe and the US won't hesitate to admit that what comes to mind first thinking of Korea is either the North Korean threat or the hugely popular South Korean soccer team.
We wanted to know more. So TRUCE went to South Korea and reports back with amazing story about <The Land of Morning Calm>. Who just are these Koreans, who seem to be incessantly capable and who, despite their processing speed have a tendency to refer to the past of their country?
It's personalities like Sang-Hun Choe, the Korean Pulitzer Prize winner. You'll read excerpts from his bestseller <Bridge at No Gun Ri> and an interview about the simple inner life of a star journalist.
Or it's the great poet Kwan-Kyu Kim, who is an icon even for German or English speaking readers. His extraordinary poems tell short stories and are just simply words of wisdom.
TRUCE also met with one of the last living legends- in the world actually: Kim You-Gam, the national cultural heritage Nr. 104. The 84 year old tells us about her enlightenment at age seven and about being chosen to be in touch with the spirits.
My fascination with South Korea is clearly the enormous hospitality and openness of its people. They say, Koreans are a little bit like Italians: sometimes too loud and emotional, but always honest and straight-forward. Maybe it's exactly this straightness, that lets Koreans look trustfully into a flourishing future."
